Rumors of clearing of Snake Island is confusion with the nuisance/invasive clearing that is going forward soon (commencing next month) on Rattlesnake Island - the larger island to the north of Snake Island. Also, that will not be clear cutting - the clearing will be mostly Brazillian pepper underbrush, along with very thin or diseased Australian pine trees. The contractor has been instructed to leave shade canopy throughout. There is nothing planned ... for Snake Island at this time. To err on the side of caution, I'm pretty sure I would have heard about any clearing plans for Snake Island - and I would make sure that Pat was consulted, as well. from high ranking county staff todays date
